Manizales is a beautiful city in the mountainous Coffee Region of western Colombia, founded on October 12, 1849 by colonist from the Antioquia region.
Right after the Cali Fair ends, when the year is just beginning, Manizales continues with the celebrations, thanks to its traditional fair that has been held since 1951 and is a Cultural Heritage of the Nation.
During this event there are bullfights, art exhibitions, parades, orchestral performances and the International Coffee Reign.
A little bit of history
The Manizales Fair began in January 1951 in charge of Oscar Hoyos Botero who, observing the Seville Fair in Spain, wanted to celebrate a similar festivity in the city.
The first version of the International Coffee Reign was held in 1957 when Miss Alicia Toro Vallejo was crowned the first queen of the fair.
As an integral part of the annual Manizales Fair, the taurine season was programmed from its origin. The first consecrated in the Monumental Bullring was the Spanish Cesar Girón, deserving of the replica of the Metropolitan Basilica Cathedral “Our Lady of the Rosary of Manizales”, established as a trophy in 1957 by Manuel Caballero.
The pasodoble song called “Feria de Manizales” (Manizales Fair), with lyrics by the poet Guillermo González Ospina and music by the Spanish Juan Mari Asins, was created in 1957. By decree from 1978 it is the anthem of the Fair with its popular “olé”.
Show at the Bolívar Square: One of the activities that attracts the most interest of locals and visitors is the artistic presentation of the best and most outstanding artists playing different musical genres in the most important open stage of the city.
The top platform of this festival guarantees fun with high quality shows to thousands of people who come to this space to enjoy countless shows, with top national and international artists.
Tour of the roads of Caldas: To evoke the roads that the muleteers crossed to contribute to open possibilities to expand the old Caldas coffee vocation on the back of a mule represents a tradition that today gives Manizales the privilege of belonging to a universal patrimony: The coffee cultural landscape.
International Coffee Reign: It is an important contest in which approximately 24 candidates from different coffee consuming and producing countries are presented. These women will compete to bring the legacy and coffee culture throughout the world. Miss Colombia of the year attends this event.
